A delta, a river gorge and a hill temple, all within a few hours of each other and all quite different trips. Andhra is one of the least-visited large states in India relative to what is in it.
District names on this page follow the April 2022 reorganisation, which took Andhra Pradesh from 13 districts to 26. Vijayawada is in NTR district, not Krishna. Konaseema is its own district, officially Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, not part of East Godavari. Most travel writing has not caught up, which matters if you are searching for permits, offices or government services.
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district
The Godavari delta, held between the Gautami and Vasishta branches of the river. Coconut groves, working canals, and small temples that see almost no outside visitors. The landscape comparison to Kerala is fair; the price and crowd comparison is not.

East Godavari and Alluri Sitharama Raju districts
Upstream of the delta the river narrows between the forested hills of Papikonda National Park. There is no road; the boat journey is the destination. Rajahmundry is the base, and working out who actually operates your boat is the hard part of the trip.

NTR district
The Kanaka Durga temple sits on Indrakeeladri directly above the river, and is the busiest temple in Andhra after Tirumala. Undavalli's rock-cut caves, Kondapalli fort and the Buddhist site at Amaravati are all inside an hour.

Sri Balaji district
Tirumala is the busiest pilgrimage site in the country and runs on a booking system that rewards planning months ahead. It sits far from the rest of this list, closer to Chennai than to Vijayawada.

Coffee country in the hills inland from Visakhapatnam, reached by one of the more scenic railway journeys in India. Cool, green and low enough that altitude never enters the conversation.

Konaseema is its own district, officially Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, with headquarters at Amalapuram. It was carved out of East Godavari in April 2022. Note that the Coringa mangroves, often listed as a Konaseema attraction, are in Kakinada district.

November to February across the coast and the delta, which is dry and comfortable. The Godavari gorge runs October to February. Summers inland are severe and the coast is cyclone-exposed between roughly May and November.
