Sonam has worked the Chadar for thirteen winters and reads the ice daily — which stretches are holding, which have opened overnight, where the route moves to the bank.
All Chadar departures follow the mandated Leh acclimatisation period and medical registration. Summer trips run the Padum monastery circuit including the walk in to Phugtal.
